What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state we experience daily. It can occur when you're absorbed in a movie or deeply focused on a book or just day dreaming for example.
Think of those times you've driven a familiar route and arrived at your destination without recalling every detail of the journey. That’s your mind in action!

In the state of hypnosis one is able to sooth the emotional part of the brain (the Limbic System ) and reduce the activity of the Amygdala. This area of the brain is triggered when are survival is being threatened, commonly known as the fight, flight,freeze part of the brain. When this area is soothed we become less reactive and open to suggestions.

As Victor Frankl said 'between a stimulus and a response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom..'

Did you know that an impressive 95% of our behaviour is governed by our unconscious mind?  This powerful part of our mind operates automatically guiding our actions and thoughts without our conscious awareness. ​Its the part of your mind where all your feelings are stored, all your memories, everything that has happened to you. It is also the part of your mind where your habits are stored. Things that your've learned to do so thoroughly that you do them automatically, without thinking about it, like riding a bike, brushing your teeth, driving a car even walking.. But we all have habits that we have learned just as thoroughly, that we wish we hadn't learned them at all. Habits like getting worried and upset unnecessarily, habits like getting angry and losing your temper at the wrong moment or maybe habits of biting your nails or smoking or eating the wrong food...all sorts of things that are difficult to change with our conscious mind. In the state of hypnosis when you are relaxed you can get control over your unconscious mind and change the habits you want to change.

Hypnosis allows you to take command of your thought processes, reducing reactivity and paving the way for new behaviours.
